Baretek News - The Saddle Alternative. There are still some Baretek's available at the original cost of $475.00, plus postage. If there is sufficient interest near Christchurch there is the possibility of holding a "Baretek Party", to personally assess the advantages and possibilities to horse and rider (or otherwise, depending on one's views). Perhaps the opportunity to have a 'play', try one on your own horse, suss out how using the Baretek for schooling and general 'fun time' could be advantageous for you both!
Suzie Peacock 'belongs' with the original trialling and construction of the Baretek. She would like to come to New Zealand and hold a clinic (or two maybe). Suzie is a very talented lady. Read her website www.peacockdressage.com and find out more. Her aim would be to teach "Dressage for All Disciplines", she says it is very popular After reading her website, and the flyer, and you consider this would be an exciting event to look forward to, please make contact as soon as possible with me. Her diary for 2011 is filling up already. I believe her qualifications as a coach are the same as "Elite" for New Zealand. Click here to see flyer on Susie Peacock.

Invitation to visit Pegasus Bay Arabians - 4th September earthquake put a rather serious 'half halt' on proceedings for the Nov/Dec 2010 proposal. Now I am open to suggestions for another date - before winter or after?? Click here to view our Invitation Flyer (PDF 706kb).

On 3 October 09 WAIPARI GINA FRATINI (Cashmere Pegasus Bay/Waipari Yves) foaled a grey filly by Earth Wind and Fire. Definitely her father's daughter, very pretty, very friendly, plenty of substance, and looks like a park hack from the moment she stood!

Xavier at 1 week old, November 09

Next, in the early hours of Monday 23 November 09, COOLINDA PARK XARLA dutifully produced another colt by Coolinda Park Kandydat... And he is sooo BLACK he would never be spotted in the dark or shadow! That is three in a row of black progeny with this pedigree combination. The eldest is Xanthus (now a 4 year old, very sadly the next filly died), and now we have Xavier PB. Xarla also produced a black colt bred to Earth Wind and Fire - he was exported. Xarla is such a good mare, a good mother, and has a super pedigree for performance, being by the performance stallion Lingxiu (Australian sire of national show champions, race and endurance horses supreme).

We are delighted with Xavier. He is of course very much the colt, a bit of a show-off, his pirouttes and caprioles are becoming perfected and are now speedy, accurate and very expressive!

Both mares received bioenergetic treatments throughout their pregnancies, which they thoroughly enjoyed. The wonderful effect of these treatments, apart from becoming 'on a different wavelength' with the mares and their unborn babies, was that when these treasures entered this world they turned around and said 'Hello, nice to see you. What took you so long!". It has just been a joy to do this work with the mares and their foals. Gina lives on a different property, with her owner, and her filly is still very happy to see me whenever I visit. So, yes, it does make a difference.....

The Exciting New Adventure - The BARETEK 'baby' story

This began last March/April when my friend Austen loaned me her bareback pad to try, as over the summer I had not tried it out on her round arabian mare Te Ara Ahi (notoriously difficult to fit a saddle to!). In fact she insisted. 'She-who-must-be-obeyed', when I returned it after a couple of 'ho-hum, yes this is fine' rides, says "I am not here for the winter, use it!" or words to that effect.

Dutifully and diligently the bareback pad was trialled on Lucja, who has had issues with a number of things e.g., going forward, girthing, stiff and unyielding and not frightfully happy. As with most new items, there is always a training-in and becoming accustomed period. Also, as the weather was not terribly conducive to working out of a trot (Oh no, it is FAR too slippery Mum), we spent time doing very basic work, reinforcing aids, general acceptances, mainly at a walk. One day, Lucja and I came to the realisation that, good heavens above, we are actually having FUN and nothing is a problem! Lets do trot when the ground is suitable. Ok. We have balance, the body is becoming rounder (Lucja's!), the rider actually has some balance and is becoming co-ordinated. Communication is reaching a different level, e.g., legs, hands, body, and the feel of the muscles changing in the horse, and the rider, and experimenting with using 'parts' on a 'think only' basis. This is just totally magic!!!

OK, I'm hooked. I just absolutely love this item of saddlery. However, every 3-4 rides I MUST remember to use the SADDLE. Wow!! Consequently saddle work is totally different for us both now. The aids are more exact, Lucja is so much more responsive. She is now more rounded in shape, she is more forward in her movement, less girthy (2 minutes to girth up now, not 10), and so much happier and more accepting of the school work that we do.

Consequently, I now have a desire to introduce this item of saddlery to eveyone I come in contact with. So, I hope I shall not bore too many people. I now have a number of BARETEK dressage style bareback pads available for sale, and if anyone is interested enough to make contact I shall be delighted to speak to you!

It is not actually a bareback pad, nor is it a saddle. It does have form but is flexible. It is an amazing training tool for improvement in horse and rider. But then, I am biased and totally hooked.

Coolinda Park Lucja (+Au) (Creme Dynasty/Gedye Lattika) Lucja has been flying the "Polish" flag for this show season. Which began with a hiss and a roar at Ashburton A & P with Champion Purebred and also the Supreme Trophy (aided and abetted by Donna in the presentation department!). Next outing was the Canterbury Royal A & P Show, inhand and ridden, with a 2nd inhand, 1st and 2nd ridden, and Reserve Champion Ridden Purebred (again aided and abetted by Donna) - that WAS exciting. The last time I rode at the Canterbury A & P was 1958 - someone suggested that I did not wait another 50 years! January '09 saw the Duvauchelle A & P with a couple of purebred arabians in the park hack section which was great, we managed a 1st and minor placings, then the CAHC Show, with similar results. So, quite busy, with much more to be worked on.

Stud Activities

On the home front both stallions have bred mares, Earth Wind and Fire covered Waipari Gina Fratini (by Cashmere Pegasus Bay) for a partbred. And Coolinda Park Kandydat covered Coolinda Park Xarla (who is sporting a wee round belly), and Sue King's Puna Wai (Sabre/Aramoana - she is sooo gorgeous). With the wacky weather patterns Coolinda Park Khloe missed out, as did a few others - probably a blessing in disguise.

The young mares have their turn next season, and the beautiful Earth Wind and Fire daughters will be bred to Coolinda Park Kandydat to continue the Oceania matriachal line along with the Polish influence.

Departures

OCEANIA (Ocean Monarch/Dellmount Ishtar) 1977-2008
bred by Helena Patchett-Carter

A very large part of my life for 27 years. And the foundation for Pegasus Bay Arabians. Her influence is forever here, and in the UAE through her direct progeny "Ocean Splash" (gelding x Kinapa), 'Pacifica" (mare x Earth Wind and Fire), and grand progeny "Monarch of the Mist (gelding x Earth Wind and Fire). Her daughters "Europa" (Kinapa) and "Brazilia" (Earth Wind and Fire) and grand-daughters shall continue her legacy.

CASHMERE PEGASUS BAY (El Nazeer/Atlanta) 1981-2009
bred by Helena Patchett-Carter

Also a very influential part and cornerstone for Pegasus Bay Arabians. His legacy also lives on in the broodmares and their daughters. They have proven to be excellent breeders and wonderful athletes. And good companions. At the time of his departure his daughter "Waipari Quant" (out of Chawton Vanity) had just taken out the Best Welsh Exhibit at the Canterbury All Welsh Show in January - what an achievement! Other progeny have excelled at jumping (grand prix), Springston Trophy, and endurance.
